Consider This Analogy:
Every child begins life focused on themselves, while every loving parent dedicates themselves to their child's needs. Children instinctively reject anything that asks them to love without gaining something in return. God's nature insists we grow up.
Agent:“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers” — (Ephesians 4:11, emphasis mine NASB95)
Goal:“When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a grownup, I did away with childish things.” — (1 Corinthians 13:11, emphasis mine NASB95)
Action:“‘Therefore they said to Him, ‘What should we do, so that we may do the works of God?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you trust Me, the one whom He has sent.’” — (John 6:28–29, DLC)
Conclusion:Knowing God has a purpose for living through you is your invitation to rest in His ability to complete what He has begun. It is by our active dependence that we overcome the spirit of independence. Remembering our total dependence on God to initiate and complete His good will to His desired end mirrors the heart of Christ animating us.
